Each winter, thousands of North Pacific humpback whales migrate to Hawaii's warm waters to breed and give birth. Our Waikiki Whale Watch heads offshore aboard the Big Kahuna in search of these giants — watch for spouts, breaches and tail slaps against the backdrop of Waikiki and Diamond Head.

Our captains know where the whales tend to travel and position the boat for great viewing while respecting all federal guidelines, keeping at least 100 yards away. Whales are curious, though, so they sometimes approach on their own — always a thrill.

It's a relaxed, seated experience suitable for guests ages 7 and up. Bring a light jacket, sunscreen and a camera. Tours run January through March, when sightings are most reliable.

  • Offshore whale watching cruise
  • Experienced spotting captain & crew

Frequently Asked Questions

When is whale watching season?
Our dedicated Whale Watching tours run during peak season, January through March, when humpback sightings off Oahu are most reliable.
Are whale sightings guaranteed?
On our shared Whale Watching tours, yes — if we don't spot a whale during your trip, you're welcome to book again for free (a free re-ride, not a refund). This guarantee applies to shared tours only, not private charters.
How close do boats get to the whales?
Federal law requires all vessels to stay at least 100 yards from humpback whales. Our captains position the boat for great viewing while respecting that distance — and curious whales sometimes approach on their own.
Is whale watching good for kids?
Yes — the shared whale watch is for guests ages 7 and up.
What should I bring?
A light jacket (it's cooler on the water in winter), sunscreen, a hat, and a camera or binoculars.
